35th edition of 1001 Pots
July 5 to August 18, 2024
1001 Pots, Canada’s largest ceramics event is back for its 35th edition from July 5 to August 18, 2024, in the heart of the village of Val-David. This outdoor gathering, which annually welcomes over 100 ceramists from Quebec and beyond, offers visitors an immersion in the world of ceramics.
In addition to exhibitors, visitors will discover a variety of sculptural works, as well as an ephemeral section for ceramists presenting smaller productions. The presence of established artists in creative residency, ceramic demonstrations, musical, poetic and theatrical performances will be featured again this year.
A rich programming for children, youth, and adults
Courses and training
To mark the 35th anniversary of 1001 Pots, we’ve expanded our program of training and courses. Once again this year, toddlers will be able to enjoy their first experience with ceramics through introductory handbuilding courses offered on Saturdays and Sundays, while adults will be able to take advantage of wheel throwing courses throughout the exhibition, in the form of intensive weeks, intensive days and one-hour introductory courses on weekends. New to the program, intensive handbuilding one-day course will also be offered to visitors of all levels. Finally, a floral design workshop with artist Annie Lord will be offered on the 1001 pots site, as well as a conference on traditional aboriginal ceramics in collaboration with the Abotec organization.
Art residencies
With the aim of supporting the creation and development of new practices, 1001 Pots welcomes artists in residence every year. The public is invited to come and meet them, and discover their art and practice.
Empty Bowls
It’s also the return of 1001 Pots ceramists and visitors to the “Sharing Bowls” movement. Local ceramists will be making bowls for the public to decorate on August 3 and 4. The bowls will then go on sale in the fall at the Val-David Farmers Market to raise funds for the Val-David food bank. Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement led by artists and artisans from around the world.
Performances & concerts
To mark the event’s 35th anniversary, 8 open air jazz concerts will be offered by renowned artists every Saturday from 2 to 6 pm. In addition, this year’s program is enriched by baroque music concerts that will take you on a journey to the four corners of the world, in the enchanting setting of the Jardin de Silice.
Opening night
As tradition would have it, the Bal des Lucioles will kick off the event with a candlelit evening of ambient music, transforming the site into a warm and enchanted world July 5, 7-10pm.
1001 Patentes qui Bougent, performing art and puppet festival
To the delight of young and old alike, the exhibition site will play host for a 4th year to puppet theater and masked play performances as part of the 1001 Patentes qui Bougent festival, taking place in the heart of Val-David village and on the 1001 Pots site from July 20 to 28. About 1001 Pots
Created in 1989 by Kinya Ishikawa, the 1001 Pots summer exhibition highlights the excellence of contemporary ceramics. Located in the heart of the Laurentians, Quebec, the exhibition showcases the wonders of local artisans and gives visitors the opportunity to acquire them. Since 2021, Sacha Ghadiri and Nouchine Dardachti have taken over the reins of the event. Welcoming close to a hundred Quebec artisans each year and offering educational, entertaining and sustainable leisure activities, 1001 Pots is more than an exhibition, it’s the biggest outdoor ceramics event in Canada.
