Kevork Cholakian

Born in New York City Kevork Cholakian attended classes at the Art Students League and the Fiorello La Guardia High School of Music and Art before earning a Bachelor of fine arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. After graduation began working in broadcast television as a graphic designer and later moved to Los Angeles to take a senior design director position in that field. Throughout his career he pursued his passion for fine art through his still life paintings. Showing in Galleries in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Scottsdale, Arizona.

After leaving television in 2010 to pursue his art fulltime Kevork also developed an interest in ceramics. His work focuses on sculpture related to his still life painting. Kevork currently lives and works in LA where his work continues to evolve.

Artist’s Studio Chairs

The play of what is real and what is not is an important part of my work. I use realism to convey humor, scale, irony, importance and familiarity to my subjects, but often add elements that prompt a second look. A constructed reality.

My compositions are simple, sparse and void of all that is unnecessary. I focus mostly on everyday objects, where the mundane becomes heroic, seducing the viewer to take a second look and see things sometimes obvious and sometimes hidden. I want to challenge our preconception of the use of materials and prompt a closer look at the seemingly ordinary things around us.
