Lisa Geue: Hybrid (i-iii), 2021

Ongoing

Geue’s sculptural work is a figural expansion and technical exploration of similar ideas and aesthetics to her vessel work. As a continuation to No Greater Reef, Hybrid i-iii embraces organic forms, shapes and organisms that are found in coral reefs. Like corals, all three bodies are build in fractal-like patterns by repetitive forms that build on one another. In her sculptures, Geue visualizes a possible future: Hybrids will have to evolve in order to secure survival. Floral shapes, coral forms and shell-like silhouettes are merging to create an other form of being. By using numbers, Geue paraphrases scientific language and name- giving. The totem-like objects are glazed with own recipes that are create the impression of a bacterial organism, living in symbiosis with the clay host. Hybrid is an ongoing project which produces constantly to build a colony of clay objects that refer to the coral reef as a complex living ecosystem with endless living entities.
