Astrid Sleire: Selected works, 2025-2026
Folded Constructions, 2026

Astrid Sleire’s works highlight the constructed and assembled – architectural qualities. In the exhibition Folded Constructions, Astrid Sleire explores the movements of the material and how the shape can create a space for new possibilities. She aims to strike a balance between construction and expression, between the structural and the immediate.
The clay is rolled out into thin sheets and then folded and joined together into zigzag-like structures. Based on the natural colour of the clay, Sleire constructs colour shades through layers of underglaze. Colour patches and stripes move across the object, forming in a pattern that may both reveal and conceal, highlight and camouflage.
Sleire’s works balance at the tipping point between stable and unsettled – between clarity and visual disruptions that invite new interpretations.
Omriss (Outline), 2026

Through an exploratory practice, Astrid Sleire investigates the plastic potential of clay by experimenting with different ways of constructing forms. Thin slabs of clay are sculpted between her hands and joined together into constructions that exist at the tipping point between stable form and collapse. The surfaces of the sculptures are worked through the application of thin layers of glaze that are gradually built up in interaction with repeated firings. By applying the underglaze at the final stage, she achieves the matte surface characteristic of her works. The sculptures appear as poetic, wordless sentences; immediate in expression, yet also open to interpretation.
