The Department of Mass Communication, Visual and Performing Arts lies within the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. The 3-D/Ceramics/Sculpture candidate must have expertise in all aspects of Ceramics production and firing and have a background in all aspects of sculpture with an emphasis on woodworking, mold making, foundry, and modeling. The candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience – beyond teaching assistant – at a university or College with a proven track record of working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds. The Department seeks to provide a high-quality education for all art majors, to provide courses for the prospective elementary and secondary school art teachers, and to provide courses to satisfy the general education requirements for the entire University population. * Special consideration will be given for those individuals that fit within the fields of Ceramics and Sculpture that can fill specific voids in the department, including 2-D design and figure drawing.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Successful proof of teaching classes within the 3-D/Ceramics/Sculpture disciplines, as well as in the areas of 2-D design and figure drawing.
• Successful proof of membership and association with local and National Arts organizations relevant to your discipline.
• Advise majors within the Department of Art
• Prepare and submit to the Chair and the University required material for the Department Annual Report
• Provide a professional development plan.
• Exercise academic leadership in the teaching, research, and other activities of the Department of Art.
• Be aware of University policies and procedures.
• Keep the Chair and faculty members informed of course structure, activities, and expectations as they relate to the department and institutional plans
• Mentor, recruit and help to increase retention of students in the Department.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Demonstration of satisfactory performance of the essential functions in 3-D/Ceramics/Sculpture, as well as 2-D Design and Figure Drawing.
• Demonstration of knowledge and leadership skills as a professor/artist
• Demonstration of knowledge of Studio Art, Art Education and Art History is preferred.
• Knowledgeable of Middle States, NCATE Accreditation and of the National Studio Art Standards and Accreditation.

Qualification Standards:
• Terminal Degree within the Field of 3-D/Ceramics/Sculpture Studio Art.
• Proof of a minimum of 3 years teaching- beyond teaching assistant – at a • University or College with a track record of working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Demonstrated ability as a teacher and as a practicing artist in area of specialization.
• Excellent oral/written communication skills.
• Ability to interact well with students, staff, and faculty.

Performance Standards:
The criteria for evaluation in this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Demonstration of knowledge of and ability to perform within the 3-D/Ceramics/Sculpture area of instruction, as well as 2-D Design and Figure Drawing.
• Demonstration of knowledge of DSU protocols, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to recruit and maintain retention of art majors.
• Advisement of art majors.
• Development of art curricula.
• Participation in faculty professional development.

• Three (3) letters of recommendation.
• Digital portfolio of professional work and student work. (20 images of each in power point)
• Documentation of scholarly/professional works (publications, presentations, art exhibits, etc.).
• Unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts. (official will be requested after employment has been offered)
