The week’s news in the ceramic art world – April 22, 2026

⭐ Artists working with clay and in interdisciplinary practices are invited to apply for the Indian Ceramics Triennale 2027, to be held at the National Gallery of Modern Art (Mumbai) from November 5 to December 23, 2027. The third edition explores play as a space for experimentation, disruption, and new ways of thinking about material and making. Open to both emerging and established artists from all over the world, the Triennale welcomes diverse approaches to clay-based practice. Applications are due May 15, 2026.

🏆 Ceramic Brussels Fair invites artists based in the European Union to apply for the 2027 Ceramic Brussels Art Prize, an annual award for contemporary ceramic creations. The five laureates will be exhibited in a group show during next year’s fair, and several prizes will be awarded, including a solo show and several international residencies. The call is open to artists who are not represented by a gallery and who have less than 10 years of experience and research in ceramics. Applications are due May 31, 2026. Application fee: €25.

🤲 Ceramic artists based in the United States are invited to apply for the Ceramics Residency Program at the Sonoma Community Center (California), offering two fully supported six-month residencies in 2027. The program provides a $750 monthly stipend, private on-site housing, 24/7 studio access, and a solo exhibition, alongside paid teaching opportunities. Residents contribute approximately 20 hours per week to studio operations while developing a cohesive body of work within a supportive community environment. Applications are due June 15, 2026.

🎨 Artists worldwide are invited to apply for the Cluster Crafts Artist-in-Residence, a fully funded one-month program based in London. Designed to support emerging and mid-career practitioners, the residency offers a private studio, accommodation, tailored mentorship, and full production support, culminating in a solo exhibition and participation in the Cluster fair. Applications close April 30, 2026, and require a £39 application fee.

🍋 There are just two weeks left to apply to the 33rd Mediterraneo Contemporary Ceramics Competition, organized by the city of Grottaglie (Italy). Selected works will be exhibited from July 4 to October 18, 2026, and several prizes will be awarded, including a €5,000 first prize, a solo exhibition award, an artist residency, and a €10,000 large-scale work prize.

🌊 Emerging artists from the Baltic region are invited to apply for FRESH 2026 — New Voices in Ceramics, an international juried exhibition organized by the Latvian Center for Contemporary Ceramics. Open to artists from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, the call offers awards including funded participation in C14 Paris 2027 and a residency at the Latvian Center for Contemporary Ceramics. Applications are due July 10, 2026.

🌐 The 39th CCACA Conference (California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art) will take place later this week at the John Natsoulas Gallery, bringing together artists, students, and educators for one of the largest ceramic art events in the US. Held on April 24–25, 2026, the conference features lectures, demonstrations, performances, and over 50 exhibitions, including a major showcase of student work alongside established ceramic sculptors.

💬 Clay in Conversation 14: Collect brings together five contemporary collectors for the latest event in the series curated by Julia Ellen Lancaster, taking place at County Hall Pottery (London) on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 6–8 pm. Featuring Connor Coulston, Caroline Fisher, Crispin Kelly, and Daniella Wells, with Preston Fitzgerald chairing the discussion, the event explores collecting in contemporary ceramics, from personal motivations to the relationships between artists, galleries, and institutions. The evening will conclude with a Q&A with the audience.

🌴 CLAY LA 2026 returns this week at Craft Contemporary (Los Angeles), bringing together emerging and established ceramic artists for a weekend of sales, activities, and community engagement. The ninth edition of the museum’s signature ceramic marketplace and fundraiser features a preview night on Friday, followed by a weekend market and hands-on clay activities.

💬 The American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) will host an online artist talk with Kristy Moreno (featured on the cover of Ceramics Now Magazine’s July 2025 issue) on April 28, 2026, from 12–1 PM (PDT). As part of the museum’s residency program, the talk marks Moreno’s current tenure as Artist in Residence and will offer insights into her practice, past work, and future directions. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session, with free registration required to attend via Zoom.

🎓 The Ceramic Studio’s Guest Potter Workshops begin next month at their stunning location in Brenchley, Kent (UK). Designed for both beginners and experienced makers, the series offers a wide variety of workshops led by acclaimed potters. Participants can explore techniques such as Kintsugi, glaze-making, slab-building, tableware design, clay collage, Onggi-making, wheel-throwing, and more. Whether you’re looking to develop new skills or deepen your practice, there’s something for everyone.
