Assistant Professor – Ceramics at University of Louisville, Louisville, KY

The Hite Institute of Art & Design at the University of Louisville is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Ceramics (Term) to join our department starting in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester across all undergraduate and graduate levels. The Assistant Professor of Ceramics (Term) reports to the Chair of the Hite Institute.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• An MFA from an accredited institution with a focus on ceramics.
• Expertise in wheel throwing, hand building, and glaze calculation.
• Experience firing gas and electric kilns.
• Studio management experience, including ceramics area ordering and maintenance.
• A robust ceramics practice with a history of exhibitions.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting and to bring ceramics techniques and histories to bear on contemporary social and formal questions across media.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience with mold making, slip casting, and atmospheric firing.
• Experience teaching in a university setting.

The Hite Institute of Art & Design, an endowed department within the college of Arts and Sciences, has a rich history dating back to 1937. It encompasses 16 full-time faculty members, a dedicated staff of four, and a diverse community of approximately 400 undergraduate and graduate students majoring in studio art, art history, graphic design, interior design, and critical & curatorial studies.

The University of Louisville is located in Louisville, Kentucky, and boasts a diverse academic landscape. The Belknap Campus, situated just south of downtown, houses eight of the University’s 12 academic schools and colleges. The Health Sciences Center, located downtown, is home to four schools and is the hub for UofL Health. Additionally, the Shelby Campus in eastern Louisville hosts various university centers and the Shelbyhurst office park for business and technology endeavors. UofL, founded in 1798, is recognized as both a Research 1 and a Community Engaged university by the Carnegie Foundation.

• Portfolio of student work (maximum 10 images)
