The Texas State University School of Art and Design invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Studio Art to teach ceramics.

Texas State University is a doctoral-granting, student-centered institution dedicated to excellence and innovation in teaching, and research, including creative expression, and service. The university strives to create new knowledge, to foster cultural and economic development, and to prepare its graduates to participate fully and freely as citizens of Texas, the nation, and the world.

Texas State is located in San Marcos, midway between Austin and San Antonio. We seek a dedicated studio artist with the desire to be an active, engaged member of our vibrant school and university communities. A commitment to teaching a range of undergraduate courses, from introductory to advanced studio art, is important, with prior teaching experience at the college/university level required.

The successful candidate will have a strong or emerging record of exhibitions and professional accomplishments and active engagement in the discipline.
• Teach introductory through advanced courses in the School of Art and Design
• Participate in curriculum development
• Pursue personal research/creative activity in a relevant discipline and build a substantive record of national professional/peer recognition
• Manage the Ceramics studio, including overseeing safety, materials procurement, and staffing for the Ceramics area
• Engage in service to the school, college, university, civic community, and profession

This position is subject to the availability of funds.

Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications Assistant Professor
• MFA degree in Studio Art with a specialization in ceramics, sculpture (or interdisciplinary art studies) earned by the start date of the appointment
• Minimum of two years (beyond teaching as a graduate student) of successful college/university teaching at the beginning and advanced levels of ceramic art
• Record of professional accomplishment in research and creative activity with evidence of a trajectory toward prominence in the field
• Strong conceptual, design, technical, and teaching skills
• Expertise in ceramic materials, equipment, tools and processes including primary ceramic forming techniques (throwing, hand-building and casting) and firing (gas and electric kilns and alternative firing methods)

Required Qualifications Associate Professor

• Expertise in ceramic materials, equipment, tools and processes including primary ceramic forming techniques (throwing, hand-building and casting) and firing (gas and electric kilns and alternative firing methods)

Preferred Qualifications

• Successful procurement of grants or other research funding
• Experience with new technologies and/or cross-disciplinary approaches to art making and teaching such as installation, environment, performance, collaboration, and/or participatory art practice
• Service-related activities in undergraduate art programs or professional organizations
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• A record of mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, reflective of the Texas State University student body

Preferred Qualifications Associate Professor
• Successful procurement of grants or other research funding
• Experience with Studio Art curriculum development
• Experience with new technologies and/or cross-disciplinary approaches to art making and teaching such as installation, environment, performance, collaboration, and/or participatory art practice
• Leadership activities in undergraduate art programs or professional organizations
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• A record of mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, reflective of the Texas State University student body

• PDF with 20 images of student work created under your direction with a list of course title(s), media, dates, and a brief description of the assignment(s)
• Statement of teaching philosophy
• Statement addressing your current creative work/research
• Unofficial transcripts (all in one document)

The candidate selected for hire will be required to provide official transcripts from all degree-granting institutions.

Examples of web/video/animation/motion graphics must be listed as Hyperlinks within the PDF file and link to portfolio websites or video-sharing sites such as Vimeo. Do not upload motion graphics files.
