Job: Assistant Professor of Sculpture at Arkansas Tech University, Russellville, AR

Position Summary:
Assistant Professor of Sculpture. This is a nine-month tenure track appointment with a start date of August 1, 2022. We are seeking a Sculpture specialist to complement our existing faculty. Teaching responsibilities are 3 studio courses per semester with additional expectations for scholarship and service. Primary teaching responsibilities include teaching sculpture at the lower and upper-division level. Expertise in additive and subtractive sculpture methods, foundry, 3D printing, and new media techniques are required. Ability to maintain foundry, sculpture studio, and equipment is required. Ability to teach one or more of the following studio and lecture courses is expected: 3D foundations, Drawing, 2D foundations, Ceramics, or Art History. Participation in teaching lower division and general education art courses commensurate with the needs of the department is expected. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach a variety of undergraduate courses.
  • Effectively advise and mentor students at the undergraduate level.
  • Engage students in high impact learning practices.
  • Develop a sustainable scholarship program, including seeking external funds.
  • Provide meaningful service to the department, college, university, and profession.
  • Engage in assessment and continuous improvement of courses.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Department Head.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• MFA in Ceramics or Sculpture or related field. Experience in teaching ceramics and/or sculpture.
• Ability to supervise the safety of all the shop equipment, kilns, glass kilns, pug mills, saws, power tools and sculpture equipment.
• The position is also responsible for monitoring the maintenance of all equipment to promote and develop studio safety protocols.
• Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a history of working effectively with colleagues.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a Master of Fine Art degree in Sculpture and 1 year of teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach beginning through advanced levels of sculpture.
  • Two years full time teaching experience
  • Ability to maintain foundry, sculpture studio, and equipment is required.
  • Evidence of an active professional record at a national level
  • Experience teaching studio art, design, and/or foundations beyond sculpture
  • Experience with interdisciplinary and/or interdepartmental collaboration
  • Experience in Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs).
  • Evidence of or potential for fostering an inclusive environment for diverse populations
  • Experience with artist-in-residence programs desired

Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:
This position is located in offices and classrooms at ATU. The position is assigned a desk and computer in location that may be in a different building than classroom locations, so the position requires the ability change locations and/or walk moderate distances during the day. Required activities include: teaching and lecturing, sitting for extended periods, use of a keyboard and mouse, use of standard office equipment.
