Applications are open to the International Biennial of Artistic Ceramics Aveiro 2021

The Municipality of Aveiro, Portugal, announces the opening of the registration period for the participation in the thirteenth edition of the International Biennial of Artistic Ceramics of Aveiro. Artists interested in participating must send their application through WeTransfer at bienalceramica@cm-aveiro.pt

At the Biennial can participate national or foreign artists, with a maximum of two artistic works with an execution date not exceeding three years, which will be selected by the members of the Jury. The artistic works may be individual or collective.

Organized by the City Hall of Aveiro, the Biennial awards three prizes: 12.000 euros for the first prize; 8.000 euros for the second; and 5.000 euros for the third prize. In addition to these awards, the jury may award Honorable Mentions. The winning works, excluding the Honorable Mentions, will be jointly owned by Aveiro Municipality.

At the time of registration, competing artists are required to submit the application form in quadruplicate, fully completed; Biographical note with a maximum of 20 lines; at least two photographs of each work in different angles and in digital format (.jpg), identified with the respective piece and with the meaning of its presentation and description of the proposed artistic works, with an explanatory note of the technical characteristics used, respective measures and positions of the pieces for the purposes of exhibition.

Through the elements presented, the jury of the Biennial will make a first screening of the artistic works, the competing artists will be informed of the selection until the 15th of January 2021, after this communication, the works must be delivered until the 31st of March 2021. It should be noted that the works must always be sent with paid freight and the final admission of the works presented will depend on the visualization of the originals by the Jury.

The selected artistic Works will be in Exhibition from 30th October 2021 to 30th January 2022 in Museum of Aveiro / Santa Joana.

The XIV International Biennial of Artistic Ceramics of Aveiro 2021 aims to contribute to the production of contemporary artistic ceramics, through the stimulation of experimentation and creativity, constituting itself as a stimulating pole of new ceramic tendencies and contributing to a didactic formation and cultural development. A center for dialogue and sharing, it acts as a disseminator of currents and concepts, opening paths in the field of contemporary artistic ceramics, acting within the framework of the aesthetic renewal that has been observed and also revealing new materials and techniques.
