The School of Art & Design at Eastern Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, Assistant Professor, tenure-track position starting August 2023.
MFA required. Applicants should demonstrate significant expertise in ceramics and show evidence of effective teaching in core and advanced ceramics classes. Knowledge of contemporary ceramic practices, both functional and sculptural, is required. Artists from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach all levels of ceramics courses (art majors, non-majors, and graduate students), advise studio majors, perform departmental and/or university committee service, and maintain an active record of professional engagement consistent with a research university. Other opportunities may include teaching courses in an area of proficiency other than ceramics and mentoring MFA students.
A new 3D Arts Complex is scheduled for completion in Winter 2024. The approximately 24,000 sq.ft. building will include new Ceramics facilities. The successful candidate will oversee the ceramics studio (i.e. manage material purchases, direct student help, and ensure the proper use of lab equipment and kilns to maintain a safe studio environment). As the primary faculty in Ceramics, the successful candidate will play an active role in shaping the program’s future.
The School of Art & Design at EMU is an accredited member of NASAD and serves over 380 majoring students.
