🙌 Ceramics Now is turning 11 years old this month! It’s also been 10 years since the launch of Ceramics Now Magazine Issue 1, with Arthur Gonzalez’ work on the cover. Since 2010, it’s been our dedication to learn more about ceramics and promote artists and their work through interviews, articles, artist profiles, and weekly news. We would like to thank you all for supporting our work over the years.
🏙 The New York Times recently published an article about Talavera de la Reina, a Spanish city of about 85,000 that is now flourishing thanks to the revival of its traditions that revolve around ceramic production. The multiple ceramic studios and small factories that can be found throughout Talavera de la Reina stand as a testament to what can be done with other cities that once thrived through art.
😊 ClayHouston’s Bayou City Clay Crawl invites the public to a variety of studio tours and demonstrations. Over 40 artists will participate offering unique artworks ranging from traditional pottery to large-scale sculptures and installations. The event is free and takes place in Houston this Sunday.
📢 Artists and teachers Graciela Olio, Anabel González Alonso, and Claudia Toro (from the National University of the Arts – UNA, in Buenos Aires, Argentina) recently published an article in our web publication, titled “Decolonizing the Discipline from Expanded Ceramics. Questions for an Emancipating Pedagogical Practice“. In the article, they propose to rethink the ceramics discipline based on a series of questions that involve multiple views on problems in pedagogical practices and current productions.
▶ We Love Clay, an online platform about ceramics was recently launched by Goldmark. The platform features dozens of documentaries on the world’s greatest potters. They offer a 30-day free trial.
🔥 The annual Artaxis Fundraising Sale is live! Over 80 artists donated their work to support the work of Artaxis, a non-profit organization that promotes contemporary ceramics.
🌍 IaRex l’Atelier, an international artists residency exchange by Iare Kearns is now accepting applications for residencies and teaching proposals. The studio is located in the port town of Saint-Raphaël, France.
🎁 The Christmas edition of the Independent Ceramics Market will take place on December 12 at Truman’s Social Club, London. This event is part of The London Design Festival, and will showcase over 100 ceramicists. Another ceramics market will take place in London at Turning Earth Haringey on December 18-19.
🎓 University of Wisconsin – Madison, WI is hiring a Professor of Ceramics and Grinell College – Grinnell, Iowa is hiring an Assistant Professor (Sculptural Ceramics)
