Susan Beiner: Floral Geometry Series, 2019
Contained Chrysanthemum, Everlasting Revolution, An Allium Sensation and Limelight are all from the same series of works. They were constructed utilizing floral geometry and rely on concepts from stories connected to the history of art. Nature and material culture have been subjects of inspiration for centuries. From the earliest times people have found challenge in the natural world. Flowers and their symbology’s are a construction of reality. Nature has its own transcription translated through a filter of our own histories.
As humans, we coexist with nature. As a gardener, I draw inspiration from cultivating nature. My objects and wall mounted sculptures become fields of color, shapes and surfaces influenced by my connection to the environment. I utilize reforming design using density, color and pattern so the viewer can consider the subject from the interior moving outside the visual frame. Inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement as a connection to nature these pieces translate a space where the history of architectural tile melds with embellishment of the baroque period.
