Ceramic Journey – Terralha Festival 2023

Terralha, A Ceramic Journey

The European Ceramic Festival is organized by the Cultural Office of Saint-Quentin-la Poterie. It is a ceramic journey through the village. Nowadays, the Terralha festival is a key ceramic event in France and abroad.

Around twenty ceramicists are invited to show their works in the heart of the village, in private sites corresponding to temporary exhibition spaces. The identity of this ceramic tour is based on a perfect match of the artistic works and exhibit spaces. The artists will be available in exhibition spots in order to meet the public and share their artistic philosophy.

Terralha Festival 2023 selection: Francois Bauer, Chiara Bonato, Katy Bourbotte,Mélanie Broglio, Maëlle Caborderie, Marie Donois Steib, Laurent Dufour, Guilherme Ferias, Sarah Gatin, Maria Geszler, Gaëlle Guingant Convert, Leïla Helmstetter, Arnault Le Calvé, Magdalena Maros, Andrea Moreno, Léa Renard, Kee Tea Rha, Audrey Schaditzki, Dominique Stutz, Christiane Wilhelm

Saint-Quentin-La-Poterie, Ceramic Capital

Labeled «Ville et Métiers d’Art», there are around 40 craftsmen in Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie among which 35 ceramists and potters. They welcome the public all year round in their workshops.

Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie offers numerous ceramic activities: the collection of the Museum of Mediterranean Pottery, the temporary exhibitions of the Terra Viva Gallery (contemporary ceramic), the artists’s residency where ceramists all around the world come to develop news projects, and pottery classes with professional animations for kids and adults.

38th Edition of the Festival

The new generation continues to question the challenges of contemporary ceramics and proves to us how clay can lend itself to infinite audacity.

The artistic selection of this new edition will dive the visitor into tender childhood memories, an invitation to contemplate sparkling, colorful and playful universes. Many artists celebrate the return to childhood, and play with the possibilities offered by the clay material. Sometimes curious characters inspired by our childhood dreams, sometimes construction games or a re-enchanted vision of nature, it is not without tenderness and humor that ceramists invent a wonderful world.

From strange figures of Laurent Dufour and Anault Le Calvé, to the profusion of soft and pastel colors of Leïla Helmstetter, François Bauer and Léa Renard, passing through the spontaneity of the gesture of Andréa Moreno, all these contemporary ceramics exhibitions will awake the senses of visitors.

A “young audience” offer will be offered to families in order to accompany them throughout their exploration: booklet games to follow the artistic journey, exhibition on the theme of the fantastic bestiary at the Museum of Mediterranean Pottery, participatory pottery workshops on the theme of the children’s snack.

Young European Ceramic Competition

Salle Joseph Monier, Rue de la Fontaine, July 14 – August 15, 2023

Unearthing new talent, this biennial competition reveals a new generation of ceramic artists every two years based on criteria of artistic quality, development potential and technical mastery. Thus, a selection of works by each selected artist is exhibited in a gallery open to the public throughout the summer. An expert jury will award prizes to the three winners of the competition at the inauguration of the European Ceramic Festival “Terralha”. Thus the Quentin d’or (1500€), silver (1000€) and bronze (500€) are awarded to the winning artists.

Young European Ceramic Competition 2023 selection: Daniil Antropov, Pauline Bonnet, Enzo Bosse, Maëlle Caborderie, Federica Cacciavillani, Stanislas Cornier, Lucile Diacono, Ming-miao Ko, Elsa Lecomte, Virgile Loyer, Andrea Moreno, Capucine Pageron, Maria Pol, Anja Ripoll, Léa Renard, Aline Schmitt, Livia Spinga
