Faculty at Greenwich House Pottery teach ceramic-based studio courses in wheel throwing, hand building, technical or historical areas, and administer to all preparatory phases of their development. The successful candidate interacts with all levels of personnel, customers and clients of Greenwich House and maintains cordial business relationships with the agency’s other programs.

Greenwich House Pottery is recruiting talent for our new Pottery Annex location, GHP Chelsea, at 80 8th Ave, slated to open in early 2024. The exact start date is yet to be determined, but classes will commence no sooner than January 8. Classes take place one day per week, either mornings, afternoons or evenings, for 6 to 12 consecutive weeks. A faculty member will hold no more than three 12-week classes within a single term. Salary Range: $45.00 Hourly

Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive instructions and demonstrate techniques of assigned course. Be knowledgeable in all ceramic processes and techniques, from wheel throwing, to hand building, to glaze formulation, to kiln firing information, etc.
• Prepare course curriculum, syllabus and annual course descriptions and oversee clean-up of classes.
• Develop group projects, schedule class trips, present slide lectures as needed.
• Offer individual instruction on a need basis.
• Review GHP studio policies and guidelines and ensure proper classroom behavior.
• Coordinate special activities such as kiln firings with Studio Manager and monthly class gallery visits with Gallery and Residency Manager.
• Attend annual faculty meetings and communicate relevant problems, issues, suggestion’s to the Pottery School Directors, or Education Coordinator.
• Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Qualifications:
• BFA in ceramics or equivalent knowledge and experience. MFA preferred. An artist/practitioner within the field of ceramics.
• Minimum 1 year of experience teaching.
• Knowledge of community-based arts education programs.
• Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact with a diverse student body and all levels of staff at Greenwich House Pottery.
• Knowledgeable in all ceramic processes and techniques: wheel throwing, hand building, glaze formulation, kiln firing information, etc.

Vaccination Requirement:
