Eglė Einikytė-Narkevičienė: One Size, 2019-2023

The central leitmotif of my work is a human being and their environment. In my exhibition, One Size, I want to talk about a person, people, and their different experiences. It is important to me to reveal the inner conflicts of a human being and their complex spiritual state that is always affected and shaped by the environment. I am interested in how the environment shapes a person, what kind of experiences we gain, how they persist, and their impact on our future lives. What helps us grow, and what destroys us? For example, in one of my latest sculptural compositions, I compared a One Size person to a piece of plasticine. Externally, they are similar only in the initial stage – while lying untouched in the box. They are all smooth and tidy; only the color differs. A human being, just like plasticine, is very plastic and can be easily deformed and damaged. They easily absorb the environmental effect and reflect it. Voltaire once said, “For a human, environment is his destiny.” This brings out a question: what would become of us if we were planted in one type of soil or another? Therefore, in this exhibition, I want to convey the impact of the environment not only through the medium of plastic, deformation, and contrast but also through color.
