The week’s news in the ceramic art world

👌 The Connecticut Ceramics Circle is pleased to announce their 2021-2022 lecture year speakers and topics. Upcoming lectures include “China, Korea and Japan: Separate but Overlapping Ceramic Traditions,” by Robert Mowry (October 11), “White Flowers – Blue Beasts: Blue and White Ceramics from the Islamic World, 9th – 17th Centuries,” by Deniz Beyazıt (December 13), or “Betty Woodman: Interrogating Form,” by Jo Lauria (March 14).

🔥 For the 18th year, Abel Contemporary Gallery (Stoughton, Wisconsin) presents an invitational exhibition of new works by ceramicists from across the United States. One of their most anticipated exhibits, this year the show is available in person and online, including pieces by Jamie Bates Slone, Mary Fischer, Marlene Miller, Kyungmin Park, Patricia Sannit, and many others.

👀 The 49th Congress and General Assembly of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) started online earlier today. If you’re a participant and want to chat, I’ll be there tomorrow all day. Also, the virtual members exhibition is online here.

🙌 This month, the North-West Ceramics Foundation is hosting “That Pottery Thing”, an online fundraiser that includes a ceramics auction and a webinar. All funds raised will support the projects of the foundation. The NWCF acts as the charitable voice of ceramists in British Columbia, Canada.

📍 Vienna Design Week, Austria’s largest curated design festival, starts later this week and will feature ceramic installations and multiple exhibitions of ceramic design.

Join them for a virtual panel discussion that brings together a group of locally and nationally distinguished artists and thinkers to reflect on how HCCC has grown over the past 20 years and what the future of craft as a field looks like.

📍 Saint-Sulpice Céramique takes place later this week. 110 ceramic artists will show their work in the beautiful setting of Place Saint Sulpice, Paris. The organizers will also host free workshops, artist lectures, a specialized books stand and more.
