Robin’s diamantides originate from geometric shapes, with a nod to abstract, businesslike modernism. The artist envelops and drapes the formal, mathematical forms with organic tissue. The geometric, rational structures and patterns eventually become overgrown. It fights with its austere form and entraps itself in that structure, creating a new form. What is seemingly pragmatic becomes tangible, tactile, human.
The rational basis in these works is countered by the intuitive skin.

The ceramic material plays a major role in this, it is not controllable but has its own laws and laws. In addition to this duality, light plays a third crucial role in Robin Vermeersch’s work: when does a form or a structure appear and disappear, what do we see and what is hidden between the folds and holes of a sculpture.
