Clay Week 2020

Clay Week 2020, an online conference event celebrating clay, started this week

Clay Week connects the creative community through conversation and clay, online during COVID. Read more.

As international ceramic conferences are cancelled due to Covid19, our ambition is to provide an accessible platform to unite and support ceramic communities. Our online conference event will create a week of synchronous and asynchronous educational content provided without financial or geographical barriers. We partner with artists and organizations passionate about the communities’ needs to host and highlight national and global events, projects, discussions and demonstrations.

Our goals in creating Clay Week are to broaden the scope of our ceramic community and celebrate clay. By hosting free educational and inclusive content we expect to engage creative people earlier in their endeavours, connect with people who would otherwise be thwarted in participating because of finances or inability to travel, help establish a creative network for individuals, and foster camaraderie and community through clay.

From Oct 5-8th we will host a variety of live events, videos, and interactive online content which covers topics such as the value of the handmade, technical research in ceramics, from functional to sculptural, conceptual to performance and everything in between, there is something for everyone this week! We will be highlighting organizations, places, residencies that offer space, foster and support growth, community, and individual makers. It is also about what artists are thinking about and how that is changing and developing in the studio.

Forty-Seven artists will be presenting during our annual Open Studio Day in conjunction with Clay Week, taking place online from October 9-11, 2020. A full list of all artists is available on our website.

This year some of the amazing organizations Clay Week is excited to be partnering with include; The Color Network, Art Axis, make and do ceramics, NCECA, Tales of a Red Clay Rambler, Quarto Books, The Ceramics Congress, and Amaco Brent.

All affiliated events are free for the public and appropriate for all ages.
