Lauren Herzak-Bauman: Stack Series, 2020
The Stack Series utilizes the intrinsic qualities of porcelain clay to create undulating sculptural forms. I assemble dozens, sometimes hundreds, of handmade clay slabs. Individually, each unit seems incomplete or unfinished. Each piece is activated, however, once combined with hundreds of other like objects. The hot 2300 degree F kiln further pushes the limits of the material as the sculptures bend and warp from the heat.
