Job Description
Penn State Harrisburg seeks an Adjunct Lecturer beginning Fall 2022 to teach Introduction to Ceramics and Introduction to Sculpture or other related art courses, depending on experience. This hire will serve as the Adjunct Lecturer for foundational-level ceramics and sculpture courses and should be capable of teaching various skills in pottery and clay construction techniques to students who vary in technical and experience levels.

Primary research areas for the opening may include ceramics, sculpture, new media and installation. Other research areas may include 3-D design, computer design, sculpture, art history, digital humanities, and interdisciplinary humanities. College teaching experience is preferred.

The successful candidate will be committed to teaching and promoting student success in the liberal arts and will demonstrate evidence of an active exhibition record as well as an in-depth knowledge of artistic media. Fluency in the practice and teaching of traditional ceramics and sculpture techniques and material methodologies, pedagogical openness to exploring media beyond conventional practice, knowledge of contemporary visual theory, and the ability to integrate contemporary creative concepts into the undergraduate classroom are essential.

Job Duties
Teach 1-3 art classes (3 credits each, up to a maximum of 9 credits) per semester and responsible for maintaining the classroom and general clay workspace and keeping tools and materials (clays, slips, molds, and glazes) organized. The ideal applicant will work collaboratively with faculty and staff.

Experience:
• The applicant should have experience loading and firing both bisque and glaze kiln fires and working with a variety of clay bodies and glaze types.
• Though not required, experience in mixing clay, glaze chemistry, and plaster mold making is also desirable.

Qualifications:
• An ideal candidate must have experience in managing and maintaining a ceramics studio facility.
• Experience working in the field of ceramics/pottery.
• Experience teaching ceramics/pottery.
• Strong organizational skills; and an active studio practice.
• A Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture, ceramics, pottery, or a related field is preferred.
• A Master’s degree in Art or a related discipline is required.
