Position Summary
The School of Art in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks a Lecturer in Ceramics / 3D Art for a 9-month appointment beginning August 2022. This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary is $45,000 and benefits include insurance and retirement. Position Responsibilities
The teaching load is 3:3. The successful candidate will have a broad range of skills and expertise that encompasses both ceramic sculpture and wheel-thrown pottery. The successful candidate will share in the management of studio and kiln operations; teach all undergraduate ceramics courses (beginning pottery, beginning ceramic sculpture, intermediate and advanced pottery, intermediate and advanced ceramic sculpture); and may contribute to the graduate MFA ceramics / sculpture teaching rotation.

The successful candidate will join the nationally-ranked School of Art’s vibrant community of active, accomplished art historians, artists, filmmakers, and ambitious undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Art offers MFA, BFA, and BA degrees in Studio Art. The 3D arts concentration encompasses both ceramics and sculpture. The undergraduate 3D concentration provides students with the freedom to balance their 3D course offerings to support their interests. The BFA degree culminates in an interdisciplinary capstone project.

UT Knoxville is the flagship campus of the University of Tennessee system and a Carnegie doctoral research intensive university with over 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students from over 100 countries. Knoxville is a thriving Southern city known for its festivals, great outdoors, diverse music scene, and wide variety of eateries. Less than an hour’s drive to the Great Smoky Mountains, the city is also home to 1,000 forested acres of urban wilderness, the Knoxville Museum of Art, and Big Ears, the acclaimed avant-garde festival of music, film, and art.

Required Qualifications
• MFA (or equivalent) degree in Ceramics or related field
• Emerging record of recognized professional activity
• Demonstrated proficiency with glaze & clay mixing, gas and electric kiln firing

Preferred Qualifications
• Successful experience teaching Ceramics as an Instructor of Record
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogies and issues related to unconscious bias
• Demonstrate and articulate a vision for the future of Ceramics education
• Experience working with a diverse population.
