The 5th Siegburg Ceramics Prize exhibition is on view through April 7, 2024

The 5th Siegburg Ceramics Prize was awarded at the Siegburg City Museum on 4 February 2024. The prize did not have a theme for the first time but was dedicated to “current ceramic trends”. One hundred thirteen applications from 23 countries were received by the closing date. A jury selected 58 exhibitors showing a broad spectrum of ceramic work.

The exhibition shows a fascinating variety of contemporary ceramic art, in which compact pieces stand alongside fragile forms, conceptual rigor and geometric clarity alongside gestural expressivity and fragile structures, individual pieces alongside series and multi-part works made up of small individual pieces alongside large-format, almost room-bursting installations.

Over 100 guests attended the award ceremony and exhibition opening at the Stadtmuseum Siegburg. Some had traveled abroad (Denmark, England, France, Israel, Austria). Three prizes, one special prize, and four commendations were awarded.

The Siegburg City Museum is expanding its collection of contemporary ceramics by purchasing ten ceramic works from the 5th Siegburg Ceramics Prize.

First prize went to Alix Brodeur, from the USA, for her expansive installation “Standort”. The 2nd prize went to Christiane Wilhelm for her “Mother of Pearls” vessel. The 3rd prize went to Christa Zeitlhofer’s “deformed circle on ellipsoid with bicycle”. A special prize for the “Blue Hour” was awarded to Ulrike Uschmann. Commendations went to Michela Benedan, Nathalie Cohn, Monika Debus, and Maria Pohlkemper.
