This is an Instructor of Practice position, non-tenurable. This 9-month position will begin August 2025 subject to final budgetary approval.

We are looking for an artist who will bring a critical and creative approach to teaching ceramics in a liberal arts setting. We seek an artist who will take advantage of our unique facilities to teach both functional and sculptural ceramics courses as well as potentially traditional and experimental courses in other sculptural processes and/or environmental art. • Firing of all kilns (3 electric, 1 gas)
• Establishing studio work and safety protocols for students in all 3-D areas
• General maintenance and repair of ceramics equipment including kilns, pug mill, throwing wheels, and miscellaneous studio furniture
• Ordering supplies within a fixed departmental budget
• Organizing studios and supplies

Minimum Qualifications: MFA in Ceramics
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience at the university level

Salary: $55,500 – $62,500 annually. The starting rate will be determined by experience, skills, and other factors permitted by law.

Faculty Status: Lecturer

Appointment Timing: Full Year

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter with a statement that addresses professional and artistic goals, current CV, teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, and a link to professional website with images of current work and student work. Applicants should also submit a separate document with a statement indicating how they can contribute in tangible ways to St. Lawrence University’s commitment to cultivating a diverse and inclusive community and classrooms. These documents can be uploaded in the “Applicant Documents” section of your application.

Additionally, three confidential references are required [the required information input in the reference contact information section of your application will be utilized to send a system-derived email requesting a recommendation letter from each reference].

Review of applications will begin April 15th, 2025 and continue until the position is filled. Questions may be directed to the search chair, Sarah Knobel (sknobel@stlawu.edu).
