Sylvie Godel: Porcelain works

Ice bliss, 2013
These white and gray cones, irregular and of different heights were made from icicles “grown” in PET bottles which were then molded at various stages of  melting, like the retreat of glaciers in our mountains. Ice bliss is a metaphor for global warming. It is also the way art turns ice into vases. Function at service of contemplation and reflection and vice versa.

Gourmet porcelains, 2005-2013
Gourmet porcelains are selected mementos from a trip to Japan. This group of four objects — a bowl, a cup and two plates — are made with different porcelains and glazes. White porcelain evokes the severity of the shapes in the traditional crafts. The glazes refer to the green color of tea plantations and the red color to the dark red of bean ice creams. The black and grey pieces remind the volcanic rocks. Far from the clichés, visitors are invited to associate and pile up freely the different objects to create their own landscapes.
