📰 Frieze Magazine recently published four articles about ceramics in their latest issue, no. 223. That’s a first. It’s actually great to see extended coverage on ceramics in contemporary art publications. 👌 The XV International Biennial of Ceramic Art of Aveiro, Portugal, started about a week ago and features an array of exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and more. The main exhibition of the international exhibition is on view at the Aveiro Museum until January 30, 2022.
🗓 For the last seven years, CraftNOW Philadelphia has hosted CraftMONTH, a series of events in November alongside the Philadelphia Museum of Art Contemporary Craft Show, to celebrate and showcase Philadelphia’s thriving craft scene. This year’s funraiser is ongoing, and the Women in Craft panel discussion will take place later today. CraftForms, an international juried exhibition of contemporary craft, will open on December 4.
🔥 Applications are now open for several NCECA Fellowships: NCECA Helene Zucker Seeman Curatorial, Research, and Critical Writing Fellowship for Women, Emerging Artists Fellowship, Multicultural Fellowships, Graduate Student Fellowships, Regina Brown Undergraduate Student Fellowships. Almost all awards are available for NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) members only. Deadline for applications: November 17, 2021.
🗨 The American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) will host an artist talk with artist in residence Colby Charpentier, who will share about his practice, past work, and future directions. Registration is free.
👀 Here is a fine example of a class that brings students (who are not majoring in ceramics) closer to ceramics through the use of computer-aided design and 3D printing. Taught by Assistant Professor Peter Pincus, this class at the Rochester Institute of Technology explores parallels between innovative methodologies in ceramics and manufacturing in the 18th century and the role modern fabrication processes play in those fields today.
