Julia Morlot: Sensitive Wave, 2020

“Every work of art is a permanent possibility of metamorphosis, offered to all men.” Octavio Paz

The long procession of small white ceramic figures is laid out on a bed of black earth. Similar to flowers, vulvas or vertebrae, each fragment is unique and reveals a few electric-looking filaments. These organic elements suggest movement and life. Shaped by time and painstaking handiwork, they move, undulating, a spine without tail nor head. Visitors are encouraged to follow their wanderings, to embrace the blind procession. The wave passes and might carry us away, since we are unable to determine its nature, or fully connect it to a feeling. We are both fascinated by the permanence of living forms and the monstrous and sublime murmur, rising and overwhelming us.
