Eloisa Gobbo: Breath, 2021

The central core of the installation is a reflections arising from current issues unites two of the events, that have had greater social and media echo in recent years: the respiratory problems due to Covid19 and the last words of George Floyd, suffocated by a police officer. Starting from these two tragic events I elaborate a constructive reflection, which looks to a future of greater awareness of the equality of all human beings, united by the same vital processes. A multitude of spherical shapes, hanging from high through balloons inflated with air become metaphors of human life, both fragile and sacred. The circular ceramics represent the body that contains life, exemplify by the air contained in the balloons which gradually exhausting, makes the spheres fall to the ground as bodies without breath. The main ethnic groups living on our planet are symbolized in the installation, through the different clay colors that make up the small circular shapes: white, black, yellow and red are present in percentage based on the numbers relating to the world population.

Breath, 2021, white, black, red and yellow stoneware, lattex ballon, dimension variable, site specific installation, Antico Oratorio della Passione Sant’Ambrogio, Milan, Italy. Photo credits Vincenzo Pagliuca.
