Eun Hye Ryu: Selected works, 2023-2026

My work begins with the time of care.

Care is repeated every day, yet the time, labor, and attention it requires often remain unseen. The small acts that sustain daily life—waiting, supporting, observing, and responding to others—rarely leave visible traces, even though they shape our relationships and communities. Through ceramics, I seek to visualize these often-overlooked experiences and reveal the hidden time embedded within everyday life.

In my work, I connect repeatedly made units to create relational structures. Leaning on, penetrating, connecting with, and separating from one another, these forms cannot exist independently. Instead, they move between balance and instability, revealing the fragile and interdependent nature of relationships.

The forms embody relationships, while flowing glaze introduces elements beyond my control. Responding to gravity, the glaze leaves traces across the surface, suggesting the changes, tensions, and uncertainties that emerge within relationships. Its unpredictable movement records moments of connection and disconnection, transformation and coexistence.

Through processes of accumulation, connection, separation, and flow, I explore how relationships are formed and maintained over time. My work investigates the ways invisible acts of care become relationships, and how those relationships gradually take shape as structures.

Through ceramics, I seek to visualize the hidden time embedded in care and explore how it becomes relationships and gradually forms structures.
