The week’s news in the ceramic art world – October 29, 2026

📙 We’re excited to announce a new call for papers for publication in Ceramics Now Magazine in 2027. We invite submissions of critical essays, exhibition reviews, and research-based articles for upcoming issues of the magazine and online publication. In honoring our commitment to showing the evolving trends and concepts that shape contemporary ceramics, we welcome writing that deepens the understanding of clay as a material of artistic, social, and ecological inquiry. We seek contributions that approach ceramics through diverse perspectives — artistic, curatorial, historical, philosophical, political, or environmental. Submission deadline: January 15, 2027.

👌 We recently announced the selected artists for the first Ceramics Now Annual. Published in print and digital editions at the end of each year, Ceramics Now Annual presents artists and practices shaping contemporary ceramics today. The inaugural edition, Ceramics Now Annual 2027, will be released in December 2026 and will feature work by 32 artists from around the world. We’re sincerely grateful to everyone who applied, and we’re excited to continue following many artists who caught our attention.

🖼️ The New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taiwan will open applications for its 2028 Exhibition Program on December 1, 2026. Open to ceramic artists, groups, and curators from Taiwan and abroad, the call welcomes solo, group, and curatorial exhibition proposals exploring the possibilities of clay across art, craft, and design. There is no fixed theme, and submitted works must be at least 50% ceramic. Selected exhibitions will be presented in the museum’s Sunlight Gallery and Ceramics Hallway throughout 2028, with each exhibition running for four weeks.

🎓 Keramikkünstlerhaus Neumünster in Germany is inviting applications for two international ceramics residency programs in 2027. The Ceramic Artist Exchange – Tandem program brings together emerging and established artists from different generations to work alongside each other, while the new Ceramic Artist Duo program welcomes established artist duos wishing to develop a collaborative project. Both offer seven-week residencies, with free accommodation, shared studio facilities, equipment, basic materials, and a €700 grant per artist. Applications for both programs close on November 30, 2026.

💯 UK-based ceramic artists are invited to apply for a special commission celebrating the English Ceramic Circle’s centenary at the V&A South Kensington in London. The project will select up to three artists to create new works responding to British ceramic traditions and production before 1900, exploring their histories, materials, and cultural connections. Each selected artist will receive a £3,000 fee and support from V&A curators. The finished works will be presented in the museum’s Ceramics Galleries from October 2027 to September 2028, as part of a special centenary display. Applications close November 15, 2026.

⛰️ Glasgow Ceramics Studio in Scotland is inviting applications for its 2027 Mid-Career International Ceramics Residency, open to artists based outside the UK with at least ten years of professional experience working with clay. The three-month residency, running from June to September 2027, offers free studio space, access to ceramic facilities, and a £1,500 honorarium to help cover expenses. Designed for independent research, experimentation, and exchange with the local ceramics community, the program also invites the selected artist to share their practice through a talk or workshop. Applications close November 23, 2026.

📌 Artists are invited to apply for the third edition of the Biennale de la Céramique de Guebwiller, taking place on May 8–9, 2027, in Alsace, France. The event will bring together around 50 ceramic artists for a pottery market and an outdoor sculpture exhibition in the gardens of the historic Château de la Neuenbourg. The program also includes exhibitions, talks, and other activities. Applicants can apply for either the pottery market, featuring around 40 exhibitors, or the sculpture trail, with 8–10 participants. Applications close December 31, 2026.

👉 Ceramic artists are invited to apply for the first RUND UM KERAMIK Artist Residency in Zurich, Switzerland, taking place from September 13 to October 17, 2027. Organized as part of the RUND UM KERAMIK festival, the five-week residency invites artists to explore the theme Pressure – Between Force and Failure through sculptural, functional, or experimental ceramic practices. The selected artist will work at Galerie 111, where visitors can observe the creative process, and the residency will conclude with a public exhibition. The program includes studio space, accommodation, materials, kiln access, and a CHF 1,000 artist fee. Applications close January 31, 2027.

💬 Baltimore Clayworks will host a virtual artist talk with Asma Waheed on November 16, 2026, at 1:30 pm. A multidisciplinary artist based in Maryland, Waheed explores themes of identity, cultural heritage, motherhood, and self-expression through her practice. Currently pursuing an MFA in Studio Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art, she has received several awards and fellowships, including the NCECA Graduate Fellowship Award. The online talk is part of Baltimore Clayworks’ Artist Talk series.

📍 Singapore Clay Festival will take place at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre between November 6–8, 2026, bringing together more than 240 ceramic artists from Singapore and across the region. The program includes the sixth Clay Makers’ Market; the juried exhibition Shaping Clay, which showcases contemporary ceramic practices in Singapore; and Singapore Clay Heritage, a special exhibition celebrating the work and legacy of ceramic artist and educator Peter Low. Visitors can also attend masterclasses with Nelson Lim and Hiroko Mita, live demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and talks.

🏷️ Following the closure of the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, UK, a selection of its specialist ceramics and glassmaking equipment is being offered through an online auction organized by Sanderson Weatherall on behalf of the University of Sunderland. The auction features approximately 180 lots, including ceramic kilns, pottery equipment, glassmaking furnaces, workshop machinery, and gallery furniture. Available items include Kilncare kilns, pottery wheels, plaster lathes, a pottery casting table, and other equipment.
