Nuala O’Donovan: Coral Series, 2015-2022

This series is based on drawings of fragments of coral. The surface and structure care made from variations of a star pattern taken from the drawings. The principals of fractal geometry, self-similar forms, and classical proportions create the directions in the work and result in several very different outcomes. Some of the pieces have the skeletal structure on the external surface of the work so that surface and structure are both apparent.
