Oriel Zinaburg: Selected works, 2020-2022

Eclipse Collection, 2022

Solar Eclipse occurs when the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun are situated on the same axis; the moon blocks the view of the Sun or part of it. A total Eclipse results in a complete obstruction of sunlight or what is known as the Black Sun. Throughout history, the eclipse was considered to have a supernatural influence due to the fear it aroused.

Alice Collection, 2021-2022

The Alice collection is inspired by Salvador Dali’s ‘The Persistence of Memory’ painting, where the dripping watches and deformed face look like an expression of the subconscious.

Derived from Dalรญ’s ‘paranoiac-critical method’ (a kind of self-induced hallucinatory state), the collection aims to systematize confusion and thus discredit the world of reality altogether.

Lot Collection, 2020-2021

The Lot collection was inspired by the biblical story of Lot’s wife, who froze and became a pillar of salt after she looked back at Sodom. Influenced by the desert environment, rock formation, and sandy dunes, the notion of time and movement is represented here by Colour. Marbled Slab Techniques and a combination of materials and coloration are utilized to enhance the experience of the complex geometries and silhouettes.

Gozotte Collection, 2020-2021

The Gozotte collection was inspired by the Goggotes sandstone concretions found near Fontainebleau in northern France. These intriguing natural sculptures were produced when superheated water extruded through crevices into a basin of extremely fine white silicate sand. The water was saturated with calcium carbonate (Limestone). The swirls and eddies of the water were captured in the gradually concreting stone.
