The Spaceless Gallery & BOON Paris present: Ruan Hoffmann

September 8, 2021 – January 20, 2022

Halfway between art and design, ceramist Ruan Hoffmann is a distinct artist that draws his intentions in and within the plates that he sculpts. After a successful show in Los Angeles this summer, the Spaceless Gallery is excited to present another selection of works by Ruan in a completely different space and context, right in the heart of Paris.

For the very first time, Ruan’s ceramic wonders will be showcased in the renowned BOON space founded by Krisotfer Kongshaug where art, design and fashion meet. Showcasing sixty unique porcelain plates, the exhibition will unveil a tale of form, function and expression. What is striking about Ruan’s work is his use of words and imagery that draws you to the mind of the artist, where he unapologetically expresses the nuances of life and symbolic hard truths with humour and style. Yet, Ruan does not aim to dictate a thought, but rather trigger reflections and interpretations. Akin to fortune-telling tea cups, Ruan’s colourfully glazed plates will inspire, challenge and resonate with one and all.

Curated especially for BOON Paris and presented during the Paris Design Week, the show takes place from September until January 2022. The selection of works will evolve throughout the exhibition to unveil surprises.

Born in South Africa, Ruan Hoffmann lives and works in the Netherlands. Using ceramics as his preferred medium, Hoffmanns sculpts familiar objects such as porcelain plates and cups into wilful, irregular and misshapen forms. Adorning the plates with a vast array of images and text that can be unapologetically political and confrontational, the work expresses the artist’s unedited observations on life’s experiences.
