The week’s news in the ceramic world

🌿 Irit Ovadia Rosenberg would be the first to tell you that she never imagined establishing a ceramic practice amongst the towering pines of New York State’s Catskills mountains, far from the madding crowd of her native New York City. Nestled between the conifers and surrounded by wild fern, her studio barn and cottage gallery provide a serene backdrop that lend her substantive, tactile assemblages an even greater sense of expanded space and time.
In her latest assemblage series, the artist hangs draped ceramic forms alongside the brutalist, rusted remains of farm machinery from bygone days, creating an uneasy yet harmonious co-existence. Artist and author Lilianne Milgrom sat down with Irit to discuss the nature and evolution of these unique groupings. Read the full interview in Ceramics Now.

👌 The 61st edition of the Mostra della ceramica di Castellamonte will take place in Castellamonte, Italy, from August 20 to September 11, 2022. The event features more than a dozen exhibitions and events, including the “Ceramics in Love International Competition”.

✨ Art in Clay Windsor takes place later this week at the Royal Windsor Racecourse. The event features over 200 exhibitors, including a full program of talks & demonstrations and a Clay Creation Zone.

🔥 The Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark invites you to Claytopia Days 2022, a festival dedicated to ceramics taking place August 25-28, with exhibitions, lectures, concerts, and a communal fire sculpture.

✍️ Last week I shared with you the launch of a new Ceramic Marks Registry for British Columbia, and some of you also mentioned The Marks Project – A Dictionary of American Ceramics, 1946-present. This website offers access to an ever-growing catalog of American studio ceramists and their marks. If you’re based in the US and would like to be included, you can fill out this form.

📌 The 10th International Ceramic Art Symposium “Ceramic Laboratory” took place a couple of weeks ago at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre & the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics. You can see the photos here and here.

👩‍💻 There is one month left to send your presentation proposal for the 57th Annual NCECA Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. The annual NCECA conference is dedicated to creation, teaching and learning through clay. Programming highlights stories, research, and experiential learning that represent the diversity of contemporary and historic ceramic practices. They welcome submissions from those involved in all realms of ceramic art and education. Applications are due September 14.

🙌 I wanted to update you on our membership campaign, which ended last month. Your support has been amazing and we almost reached our goal (50 new members by the end of July). We were just 6 members-short! In other news, Ceramics Now Weekly turned two years old at the beginning of this month and we also reached 10,000 subscribers! 🎉 I am very thankful for this opportunity to continue working at Ceramics Now.
